Help! Background Services stopped running in Production

Hi,

Our Background Services stopped working last week and we've been trouble-shooting to try to understand what has happened.

Thanks to this forum, we found the 'kRunServiceManager.sh' command. (We couldn't find any information about this command on HP website.)

It took a few syntax tries to get it to work, but it finally seemed to work with the following steps:

1. Run this stop command on each server for the services node:
$ ./kRunServiceManager.sh -stop -name kintana1-services -user admin

2. and then this start command:
$ ./kRunServiceManager.sh -start -name kintana1-services -user admin

3. Recycle the the application server on each server (we have load-balancing and clustering)

Some (but not all) of the background services appeared to then process!! But this morning after the overnight backups and server re-starts, some of the services ran right away between 4:00am and 5:00am but have not run since.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!
cindy

Re: Help! Background Services stopped running in Production

Hi Cindy,

Are you seeing any Java OutOfMemory errors (heap etc.,) in serverlog files.

Thanks
Siri..

Hi Siri,

Thanks for the suggestion! I went out to the server and did a search on each server log that was generated today and there are no references of memory errors. Hmmmmm.

Re: Help! Background Services stopped running in Production

Check the parameter com.kintana.core.server.SERVICES_ENABLED in server.conf? It should be set to true.

Re: Help! Background Services stopped running in Production

Hello Suresh,

We have load balancing and clustering and we just verified that the correct services node is set to true.

Thanks for the heads-up!
cindy

FYI: We do have an open case to HP but no luck yet.
