ERP-Integration

Hi community,
we are currently evaluating the best way to integrate PPM with our ERP system (SAP). The objective is to have current and consistent data in both systems (financial data and plan/actual effort). Since migrating our PPM to release 8 we don't currently have any integration between the systems.

Important aspects as far as we have identified them:

  • 2-way transfer of data using modern technology (web services preferred)
  • the "owner" of the data should be the system where it comes from
  • users should need to use as few systems as possible (-> one system)

Which leads us to:

  • financial and effort plan data entered in PPM and transferred to SAP CO for corporate-wide reporting
  • actual effort captured by PPM time management and transferred to SAP CO
  • actual costs from SAP FI to PPM (read-only there)

Difficulties as we are aware of so far:

  • Technical: decision between real-time and batch; what technologies are best (web services, SAP BAPI, flat files)
  • Entity matching (proposal, project, asset vs. cost centers, psp-elements)

If you could share your thoughts and experience on these types of integration with us you would really help not just us, but surely many other customers as well.

Regards

Sascha

Re: ERP-Integration

Hi Sascha,

We have integrated Oracle ERP system with HP PPM Portfolio Management module.

We have implemented this using the PPM Web services and for custom dashboard we have create new Java portlets.

Let me know if any information is required in this regards.

Re: ERP-Integration

Hello Utkarsh,

great to hear that, what kind of integration is it?

Are you moving actual cost from Oracle over to the entities in PPM and actual efforts the other way? Or are you following other concepts?

Custom Java portlets sounds tricky though.

Best regards

Sascha

Re: ERP-Integration

Hi Sascha,

we are confronted with the same topics, because at the end of the year we roll out time management in our company.
So we have to implement an interface between PPM and SAP CO to transfers the calculated costs of the booked time. We decided to write a java program which calls the BAPI function "AcctngManCostAlloc.Post" over a web service. It would be nice, if we could run the procedure from dashboard within an java porlet.

Anyway, it is good to know, that other companies using PPM in combination with SAP.

Nick
