Default Portlet for a specific group

Hey there,

A special dasboard is made for for a specific security group. Normally, there is a standart deafult portlet we use. But, it is wanted that when the specific group enter the system, they will see their special dashboard as default dashboard page. Is is possible. As far as I know, when you set a dashboard as default, it become default for everyuser. Is there a way to make it to define another default portlet for a special group?

Regards,

Sev

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

Currently its not possible...

If you want to restrict default dahsbord for specif user group then you can define the security of the default module.

But in this case other users will not get default dsh.

Cheers..

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

No, I dont want that.

I want 2 different default dashboard. One will be shown in general. But for a specific group I want the other one to be shown. From what you say, I understand that this is not possible

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

Yes, unfortunately only one defaule dashboard is allowed.

But, if your columns are the same and you want the data filtered differently:

Modify the data source at the workbench.

See simplified Data Source sample (attached).

Try it in SQL Runner:

- you will probably not have the same department codes (Administrator, Government,...)

- You will probably not have the same status_name(s) (Pending...)

- And of course in SQL Runner replace [SYS.USER_ID] with real user_id during testing

Data Sources can be much more complex then the attached query.

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

This can be done with some user education. Teach your users how to set their own default dashboard through the Personalize Dashboard option. If the dashboard you want them to have will not be modifiable by them, you can push it out to the security group. Otherwise, tell them how to pick up the dashboard they need and how to make it their default.

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

What we did was a specific workaround, created a view with the default module and the user group, after that a Stored Procedure run daily and for each group get the users, reacomodate the secuence of the modules and set the module as first in the table DSH_CONTAINER_SEQUENCE.

What you need to do manually is to set first the portlet of the module you want to see.

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

Hey Jim,

Can you briefly describe how a user set a shared dashboard as their default dashboard?

Thanks,

Sev

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

According to the manual Creating Portlets and Modules, there are a couple of ways for the user to get a shared page as their default page. The easiest would be to let users copy the shared page and make it their first private page. Other than that, I see the following description in that manual:

The landing page is the default PPM Dashboard page that displays when a user

logs on to PPM Center. This page can be configured by the application

administrator.

If the user does not have access to the module that contains the landing page,

the user’s first private page is used as the default PPM Dashboard page. If the

user also does not have any private pages configured, the first shared page is

used as the default PPM Dashboard page.

Re: Default Portlet for a specific group

Thank you Jim.

I think this will solve my problem as a workaround.
