Cost Rule Precedence

Regarding the left to right cost rule precedence in PPM, let's say the precedence is setup as follows

1. Resource     2. Region     3. Org Unit     4. Role

Cost Rules exist as follow that match the driving cost factors of a given Resource:

1.<blank>          2. Enterprise   3. <blank>     4. <blank>

1.<blank            2. Enterprise   3. IT Support  4. <blank>

Understanding the left to right precedence makes sense if there were an Org Unit / Role cost rule or say just an Org Unit cost rule, but which of the previous cost rules will the application apply for the Resource? The one with just a single value that matches one of the more left attributes or the one that matches the most left attribute but also matches a more right attribute?

Thanks,

Jamie

Re: Cost Rule Precedence

Hi Jamie,
What a confused question for my English :)

The reading rule is which one(cost rule) is more spesific that is run first. If one rule is ran for a user, other least spesific rule will not run for that user. In your example line 2 more spesific than line 1. So line 2 run first.

Another example

Rule #   1. Resource     2. Region        3. Org Unit      4. Role

Rule 1   1.<blank>         2. Enterprise   3. <blank>      4. <blank>     10$

Rule 2   1.<blank>         2. Enterprise   3. IT Support  4. <blank>     50$

Rule 3   1.JamiePick     2. Enterprise   3. IT Support  4. <blank>     80$

  • for Jamie Pick who works in IT Support gets 80$
  • for Jamie Pick but who works in Accounting gets 10$
  • All IT Support except Jamie get 50$
  • All employees except IT Support get 10$

Is it useful for u?

Re: Cost Rule Precedence

Thanks for the reply - no worries on the English :)

I completely understand the left to right precedence that is followed with regard to the Cost Rules. What I was wondering, specifically, is what is the chosen rule when a Resource matches two rules, like the following...

Resource        Region         Org Unit        Role

<blank>           Enterprise    <blank>        <blank>

<blank>           Enterprise    IT Support    <Blank

One thing to note - in your example, you cannot have a Resource level cost rule with Department, Org Unit, Resource Type, Role or Region because it's redundant and meaningless to the system.

Thanks,

Jamie

Re: Cost Rule Precedence

Hi jamie,

your example a resouce could match with these two rules but system select the more spesific one. It's second one.

OK?
