I think I know the answer, but thought I would toss this one out in case anyone has a solution... we are on 7.1.
We are running into a situation where users are promoting proposal requests into projects. The problem is, the users who are doing the promotion may not know the correct project type. The users have two questions: - Can identifying the Project Type be delayed until the first step of the Project object workflow? - After the Project has been created, can the Project Type be changed?
Are there any good workarounds for determining or changing project type after creation of the project?

Yes, you can postpone it by assigning it on some later workflow step.
Also, you may not be able to change the project type, but you can create a new workplan, using another workplan template after the project request is created, so that should also get resolved. Certain things will be based on the access grants, so make sure you have given the required access grants to the project managers managing the workplans.
