Re: Can we have all sections in the Request be expanded, rather than closed by default

Hi Prakash,

The Expand/Collapse in the requests are primarily driven by two things:

1. Are there any mandatory/required fields in any section on a given request status.

2. What has the previous user done on the request form for expand and collapse.

If there are required fields in any section on a given request status then when the request transitions to that status it automatically expands all those sections which are having any required fields. If there are no required fields in a section on a particular request status then the system may collapse that section on its own.

If the previous user manually collapses any section, but that section has a required field on the next request status/workflow step, then it will still expand automatically.

If the previous user manually collapses any section not having any required field and the next status/workflow step does not have any required fields then the section remains collapsed.

If the previous user manually expands any section not having any required field and the next status/workflow step also does not have any required fields then the section remains expanded only for the next user.

The application checks both the things, whether the fields are required or not and whether the previous user has manually expanded or collapsed the section, the either expands or collapses or leaves the section as it is based on all the above permutations.

It is a system default, and any change may be a customization. As a training issue you can ask the first user i.e. the submitter of the request to always leave all the sections expanded only. The system may still collapse it in the following steps, unless the previous user expands all the sections by clicking on the Expand All button.

Thanks Darshan for your detailed explanation.
But, as you mentioned in last para "It is a system default, and any change may be a customization". Can anyone make any change in this default behaviour or only HP persons (PPM support team) can do it?

Re: Can we have all sections in the Request be expanded, rather than closed by default

Hi Prakash,

Any change in the same will be mostly JSP and and probably back-end change. Whether you make this change or HP makes this customization won't be supported for any support cases related to this change (unless HP makes has some warranty time on that change). Also, everytime you apply a patch or upgrade to new version this change will need to be re-applied everytime as it will get overwritten with every upgrade. Also, for this small user requirement of keeping in expanded format, this may be a complex and expensive change, this may be good as a training issue only. Also, this system default should not generally be an issue with the end users unless something critical requirement is there, because for every mandatory field in any section, the system by default will expand that section for the user. If user wants to read through all the non-mandatory fields, he/she just will need to click on one 'Expand All' button to view all the fields. Other than having it as a training issue for now, if you want, you can also create an Enhancement Request with HP to give this feature as a configurable item, so may in future versions they incorporate it as configurable instead of system default.
