2 instances sharing the same server

Have you ever tried to install 2 different instances of mercury (hp ppm) in the same server?

is there any problem on doing that?

thanks

Re: 2 instances sharing the same server

We are currently running 3 instances. We have a sandbox, development, and test all on one server. Modifications do have to be made to the server.conf file so that you are pointing to the instance and db you want.

We currently have 3 instances on the same server. We have a sandbox, development and test environments. Just make sure you change the server.conf to point to the right instance and correct db.

Re: 2 instances sharing the same server

Hi Sebas,

Running multiple instances on the same box is fine, but the following parameters must be different for each instances,

1. HTTP port
2. RMI port
3. All database related parameters, like JDBC url, sid, etc.

As far as each instance of application server has different ports and each database is pointed to separate database schemas, the application should not have any issues.

License keys is something that may be same or different based on your contract with HP for each of the instances.

Re: 2 instances sharing the same server

Hi Sebas,

I had at one point 3 instances on one server, 2 7.1 instances and one 6.0 instance. We ran into an issue with starting up the application. We had to edit the Java settings to get the application to start, but it is a known issue if you are have AIX JRE 1.4.2.

Thanks,
Michael

Hi,
did you write an installation report about this?
Can you send it to us?

Re: 2 instances sharing the same server

No,

I do not have a report, but these were the directions from HP support:

PPM 7.1 supports SDK 1.4.2.1 for IBM AIX OS, as you can find in the system requirement matrix guide.

I think I have found the resolution of this error after discussing with R&D. It was known issue for IBM AIX JRE 1.4.2.

On AIX, bouncycastle JARs need to be moved out of WEB-INF lib, otherwise, the security algorithm will fail as we see the errors thrown in the server log.

Workaround: Manually set the bouncycastle provider on AIX:

1. Copy bcprov-jdk13-133.jar from WEB-INF/lib into $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext dir
2. Modify $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/security/java.security to add the following line in security provider list: security.provider.5=org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider
3. Delete bcprov-jdk13-133.jar, bcprov-jdk14-129.jar from WEB-INF/lib

This was just one of the issues that we encountered just after the upgrade, but before we started the server.

Thanks,
Michael
