Supercharge IT Operations using next generation HPE Operations Bridge

gabemartinez

The legendary race car driver, Mario Andretti, once said “If everything seems under control, you’re not going fast enough.” Despite not working in the IT industry, Super Mario clearly had IT operations and its impact on business value in mind. Okay, maybe he didn’t. But, his statement is a perfect encapsulation of how companies and their IT departments must think about their pace of innovation and their ability to leverage automation to drive the business in a faster and more efficient way. So how do you shift your IT operations into a higher gear and inject a little NOS into the engine?

Check to see if you’re stuck in “cruise control”

The sobering reality is that most IT operational teams are set to cruise control. Many rely on manual processes that are not only resource heavy, but are also costly and highly susceptible to errors. Additionally, the overwhelming number of IT tools in place paints a disjointed picture of an organization’s overall operational performance. In this world, IT is run as a reactive cost center.

Another speed inhibitor is the massive amount of data flowing through the business. Your data truly is only as good as what you do with it. Without automation and advanced machine learning in place, uncovering the valuable insights hidden within all of your data isn’t for the faint of heart. Let’s pause and geek out for a moment on this topic…

By the year 2020, the digital universe will grow by a factor of 300, from 130 exabytes to 40,000 exabytes, or 42 trillion GB. However, the human brain is only able to hold the equivalent of 1 million GB of memory. For context, the hard drive of my laptop is 500GB. Let that sink in.

The point? I’m glad you asked! It’s clear that this is too much data for a human to pore over – making automation and speed a necessity, not a luxury.mechanic.PNG

How is your alignment?

The other thing to consider is how well IT and the business are aligned. Without the insights from your data, IT will be hard pressed to demonstrate value and how it’s supporting the business – leading to reduced IT budgets and misaligned priorities.

As always, the first step is admitting that there is a problem. You have recognize it before it can be addressed.

Shift into a higher gear

It is clear that IT must become a value creator – not a cost center. Shifting out of “cruise control” means traditional IT must transform into hybrid IT with an autonomous operations approach focused on three core requirements – being easier, faster, and transformative. Hybrid IT combined with an autonomous operations methodology enables businesses to:

  • Intelligently monitor IT events and performance in a highly scalable, agile and consolidated way
  • Uncover insights hidden within data by taking an analytics-driven approach
  • Increase efficiency by automating problem detection and resolution
  • Make performance-based business decisions with IT as a strategic partner

Automating these capabilities makes it easier to shift to fifth gear and allows your business to transform from a traditional to a digital enterprise.

Hit the accelerator and the NOS switch

So, now that you know what speed you are at currently and how fast you need to be – how do you bridge the speed gap? With the power of the HPE Operations Bridge Suite. Operations Bridge integrates your existing tools and data to provide automated event reduction, anomaly detection, root cause analysis, and business service modeling in a single pane view.

With this consolidated view, your team becomes more efficient and can focus on innovation and business priorities instead of staying in first gear inside of a “war room” setting.
