A global financial services firm provides global wealth management services and capabilities to institutional and corporate clients worldwide, as well as private clients in Europe. The company is present in every major financial center worldwide, and employs over 50,000 people in more than 50 countries.
As a financial firm, there are extremely stringent compliance and security requirements across the worldwide IT infrastructure. This firm looked to partner with a company that could help develop a long-term strategy to meet corporate and regulatory requirements in its databases. The firm’s previous database state ran patching deployments in four to six weeks, occupying operations staff for oversight and management.
Another area of concern was the high overhead costs of hiring and training ad-hoc staff for patching periods, creating more manual procedures and disruptions in the firm’s database environment. HPE Database and Middleware Automation (DMA) was the key component to help meet those outlined problem areas and business goals. HPE developed a strategy to pinpoint areas of improvement which aligned with the firm’s goals, and by implementing HPE DMA, created a much more efficient and reliable database environment.
The solution implementation resulted in drastic improvements. With full implementation, patching timelines decreased from 4-6 weeks on average to under one week, while also improving reliability by 90%. Efficiency boosted and the requirement for ad-hoc staffing was reduced by 80% by enabling the operational staff to complete tasks alongside HPE DMA. This has resulted in a patching capacity increase from 100 instances per month to 300, and an estimated annual savings of $3 million.
The results experienced were beyond hopes set forth by the financial services firm and there are plans in place to leverage the technology to expand automation to other tasks including our database migrations. Automation is a necessary component in any IT infrastructure in order to keep up with changing IT environment and increased regulations.
