OMi helps your application take a selfie

There are times in life when we look to our handy hand-held device to capture the moment. Decades ago, if you were in need of instant photography, you sought help from someone accompanying you or you were helpless. But the evolution of digital cameras brought about the self-timer feature which helps you take pictures by yourself.HP20150113995.jpg

In this modern era of technology, it’s rare that you miss out on capturing the moments of your life, from the momentous (a trip to the mountains, your baby’s first smile) to the mundane (a selfie in the Starbucks drive-thru).

We can apply that immediacy to IT Operations. There are occasions when an application is crying out for resources, a web transaction timed out, there’s an issue with Exchange mail box, etc. In such cases, immediate notification is very important, but capturing the state of the application as a snapshot is what’s going to be really helpful for the app admins when they look at the event minutes or even hours later. So who can help the application take a selfie and send it to app owners when it’s crying out with issues?

HPE Operations Manager i (OMi) infrastructure and application monitoring helps in this situation with its power of agent and richer management packs. OMi Management Packs recognize the moment and lets the Operations Agent create an event with a “selfie” of the application annotated to the event. The example below shows an event sent to OMi with Annotation which was captured at the moment of “High SQL Elapsed Time.”

The event with the application snapshot as an annotation can be seen at the OMi EAnnotation.pngvent Perspective against the  “Configuration Item” of the particular application. The feature of “Automatic Action” comes out-of-the-box with OMi Management Packs for most of the Measurement Threshold policies. It can easily be customized or added by operations admins as per application needs. The Automatic Action can also be used to run any command for application remedy exactly at the moment when an application issue occurs. The picture to the right shows an event tab with Annotation text resultant from Automatic Action.

Don’t wait—start capturing your application’s important moments (good and bad) with OpsBridge and its richer contents!!
