Introducing Storage Operations Manager 10.20

HPE Storage Operations Manager 10.20 was recently released. With this release, the following exciting new features are available:

  • Performance Workbench to analyze performance metrics of devices
  • Integration with HPE Operations Manager i (This integration with OMi is also available with SOM v10.10 via a hotfix).
  • New device support: EMC Data Domain, IBM XIV
  • Enhancement to supported devices: NetApp c-mode block support, VNX FAST-VP, VNX File performance.
  • Event support for additional devices: VNX (Block and file), CLARiiON, VMAX, NetApp (7- and c-mode), HDS arrays, XP arrays, IBM SVC/V7000
  • HPE Operations Bridge Report 10.01 as reporting solution
  • HPE branded UI

Performance Workbench

Performance Workbench enables you to visualize performance metrics of devices dashboards for analysis. It supports embedding graphs (line, area, bar etc.), single value, text, pie and table into the dashboard. Performance Workbench can be used to diagnose specific problems and to troubleshoot device performance.

Optimized Element Explorer tree helps your select and visualize performance metrics of an element (host, switch, or storage device) or device components. Date Range Panel can be used to visualize time-specific data for a set of performance metrics. With Performance Workbench, raw performance data can be analyzed for up to 15 days of data.

Integration with HPE Operations Manager I (OMi)

HPE Storage Operations Manager (SOM) - OMi integration provides event consolidation in the OMi active messages browser, so that datacenter operations users can detect and investigate potential problems in the storage infrastructure. With OMi's built-in Run Time Service Model (RTSM) user can map correlations between the application and server layers.

SOM manages the dependencies between the server and storage layers. The server layer is common to both the management systems (SOM and OMi). SOM populates the CIs in RTSM just as OMi populates the same CIs in RTSM. The UCMDB/RTSM content packs populate and reconcile these CIs using business keys. Thereby OMi provides end-to-end dependency mapping from the application to storage in a data center. SOM uses BSMC to filter and send events to the OMi active messages browser.

EMC Data Domain

EMC Data domain is an enterprise backup, recovery and data protection device. Many customers were asking for this device support in SOM and it’s finally available.

IBM XIV storage systems are now supported in SOM. SOM supports inventory, topology, capacity and performance data of XIV devices.

SOM already supports NetApp devices. With this release, NetApp block is supported for c-mode devices as well as deduplication and compression values are shown for volumes and at the device level. With this release, VNX FAST-VP, sub-LUN tiering technology for VNX, and performance data collection for VNX file persona is supported.

Event support for additional devices

Prior to SOM 10.20, event support is available for HPE 3PAR along with Brocade & CISCO FC switches. With this release event support has been extended to VNX block & file devices, CLARiiON, VMAX, NetApp (7- & c-mode), HDS arrays, XP arrays, IBM SVC/V7000 devices.

 

SOM 10.20 uses HPE Operations Bridge Report 10.01 as reporting solution. With this OBR patch, HPE SOM’s reporting solution is even more efficient.

With this release, SOM has been reskinned also uses HPE’s brand look & feel UI.
