Usually when a new technology tries to solve one problem, it appears to create a new one. Cloud is a perfect example of this phenomenon. Cloud-based technologies—in all of their many varieties—have completely transformed enterprise IT. These technologies have revolutionized how corporate teams access and manage IT resources. The benefits of cloud are numerous, but every cloud administrator knows that actually managing cloud service environments presents a special set of challenges.
The different deployment models for traditional IT and private, managed, and public clouds create a complex environment. Administrators who service business users’ requests are on the front lines of this cloud revolution. They face a frustrating litany of mundane tasks that occupy the majority of their workday—from putting up more servers to connecting power supplies. An administrator can draw upon multiple available cloud resources (including OpenStack, Local Server Resources, Network Resources, Amazon EC2, VMware vCenter, etc.) to design cloud services for their users.
With an open and extensible API-based architecture, CSA supports multiple hardware vendors, across multiple hypervisor vendors, and public and private cloud resources. It provides the ability to add new cloud providers based on their requirements. Now IT organizations can avoid vendor lock-in and provide the benefits of cross-platform integration—for scenarios such as bursting. In addition, CSA offers content portability allowing administrators to easily migrate service designs from a testing environment into production.
Simplifying cloud services
The goal, of course, is to simplify cloud services for the administrator. CSA provides administrators with a unified comprehensive cloud service management solution for real-time subscription management. It also provides a single view for managing multiple organizations and roles based access control. Underpinning it all is a consistent approach to managing cloud services across disparate platforms.
