Use case 1:    Voice quality monitoring (QoS/MoS)


Challenge encountered:

   Unclear/broken voice between two IP phones during an established call



  • Low QoS call incidents get generated (even before the user could actually call the support) – One from each side of the call
  • Launching the voice path between the two phones/extensions helps in troubleshooting the issue -It lets the user know the network path (through which voice travels) between two phones
  • Users can also launch QA reports –These reports consist of RTT/Jitter/MOS between the voice path of the phones to understand the path health
  • Metric SPI path health report can also be launched—Perform this action to observe the Interface Utilization and other metrics
  • Launching the Real time graph—Connects to the RTP stream coming from the IP phone to show the QoS measurements


Use case 2: User wants to be alerted on specific termination reasons and analyze the call termination reasons


Challenges encountered:

  • User wants to be alerted for some specific termination reasons for the calls.
  • User wants to know the reasons for call failures and to see the specific devices being used for failed calls and take the next steps.


  • User can configure for the specific termination reasons—this allows them to be alerted in the Cisco Call Monitoring Configuration UI.
  • User can launch the Cisco CDR Top-N report—user can generate reports grouped by calling party number, called party number, cluster ID, and termination reason



Use case 3: User wants to monitor the CUCM system and service health


Challenges encountered:

  • Detect the health issues early using proactive threshold monitoring


  • User can configure the list of critical CUCM services he wants to monitor—user can be alerted when services are not running
  • User can configure various CUCM system health measures for monitoring—user can set thresholds to get alerted when thresholds breach
  • User can also look at the historical reports—user can review reports for CUCM services and System health



Use case 4: User wants various usage and utilization reports and summaries for operation and capacity planning needs


Challenges Encountered:

  • User is unable to optimally plan and deploy the IPT infrastructure to sufficiently handle all the calls and meet QoS SLAs.


  • Various types of analysis—Using Cisco Call details for operational as well as capacity planning to understand volume and call routing service utilizations
  • Gateway Statistic reports—Help identify peak period (hour/day/week) for calls routed through Gateways, P.01 Grade of Service (GoS) Summary reports for BHT (Busy Hour Traffic). GoS summary report helps in knowing the Gateway channel usage and based on these metrics. It then helps in decision making for capacity planning. Peak period reports give the peak time of the hour/day/week in which call volume reported is the highest
  • Call-routing statistics reports—Such as P.01 GoS Summary report for Route Groups (RG) usage, P.01 GoS Summary report for Route Lists usage for a reference RG. These reports help the user determine whether Route Groups and Route Lists configured for call routing are sufficient enough for the processing of multiple calls in the VoIP environment.
  • Gateway B-channel activity and Call Activity reports—Help in knowing the utilization of the Gateway interfaces/channels and planning for deploying additional gateway resources if required.
  • Media Resource Activity report—Helps in planning for additional media resources if required.
