We have new subj servers, that are to be backed up by win 7.03 cell manager.
We are installing 7.0 agent from HP-UX media but without success:
bash-3.2# ./omnisetup.sh -install da
There is no information about the packets
available for this system. This platform
is probably not supported.
No Data Protector software detected on the target system.
omnisetup.sh has got nothing to process, exiting...
in BDL703 it is probably supported, but how do we install it without 7.0? We only need to backup files for a start, DB2 in perspective. We have no AIX or any other unix clients and inst.servers at all and never configured them.
Can you send a copy of your 'omnisetup.sh' script that you are using as an attachment when you reply to this. I found some indication that the script may need to be edited to add installation support for AIX 7.1, and I want to see if your script includes this
We are looking at subj AIX system, where 7.0 agent was installed (after modifying script).
We are trying to to upgrade it to 7.03 locally since we have no UNIX installation server, what we're doing:
1. unpack DPUXBDL_00703.tar on win workstation (AIX tar does not unpack this tar), in the directory are files DPUXBDL_00703.depot, DPUXBDL_00703.text, install, omnisetup.sh. Transfer files to AIX.
2. run ./omnisetup.sh -install da,db2 sometimes installator asks do we want to resume unfinished installation, and installation every time is successfull. Also it sometimes says that file is used, but this is fixed by running slibclean and restarting installation.
3. run /usr/omni/bin/vbda -ver
bash-3.2# ./vbda -ver HP Data Protector A.07.00: VBDA, internal build 72, built on Wed Mar 14 13:07:26 2012
as we see from build date patch bundle was not installed.
Unfortunately, there is no documented procedure for Installing a patch locally on a AIX system. The only supported method is to use an Installation Server. If you had a Linux system, as long as the OS-verion is supported, you could put a UNIX-based Installation Server on that, it does not even ned to be a system within your cell
I have attached a general procedure for patch installation, this may be of some help to you
"will it be enough to have inst server with only linux packages to install and patch AIX agents?"
Yes, the only restriction is that you must have seperate Installation serves for UNIX-based and Windows-based clients. The actual bits that get distributed to all UNIX-based servers (of which AIX is one) are the same
