Unable to access Offline Records repository

We have a user who can not edit or check-out documents - receives an error message stating that the system is unable to access the Offline Records repository with a code 0x80004005. Anyone come across this before?

Re: Unable to access Offline Records repository

Yeah, I've seen it before a few times. There could be several different issues causing it.  Generally the error message means "access denied".

What version of TRIM is this and which operating system?

In Windows 7 this can be caused when the install is not done with the proper administrative privileges.  Remember that you need to deploy from the administrative command prompt (right-click on the command prompt and select run as administrator) and then run the msiexec command on the msi package.

With other operating systems the most common cause is that the offline records area or database is unavailable (maybe a network drive?) or permissions have changed.

Cheers,

Re: Unable to access Offline Records repository

Erik, is that a requirement to install TRIM v7?  What if you're an administrator under your login name, do you still have to select run as administrator?

Re: Unable to access Offline Records repository

Yes, that is a requirement.  Simply installing as a user with administrator rights is not sufficient on a Win7 machine.

Erik,

we are using 6.2.4.1226 and Vista. User had correct access to Offline Records up until last Thus (29/7).

Re: Unable to access Offline Records repository

Up until last thursday?  You mean that's when the error started or that's the last time you checked?

When you say correct access are you checking each of the following:

1) The path specified in the "Offline Records DB Folder" setting contains an access database and the user can open it with read/write access

2) The path specified in the "Offline Records Documents Folder" setting can be browsed to by the user and has read/write access for the specified user.

Re: Unable to access Offline Records repository

Up until Thurs - was the last date the access database specified in Offline Records DB Folder (trimtd.mdb) was modified. User can get to this but cannot open it without a password. Pathh for Offline Records Documents Folder can be browsed and user has read/write access.
