Meaning of 'everyone'

Can someone please explain the meaning of everyone as applied to access controls? As an example, a document has the following access controls:

View document: Based on container: everyone

View metadata: Based on container: everyone

Update document: Based on container: everyone

Update record metadata: Based on container: everyone

Modify record access: Based on container: everyone

Destroy record: Based on container: everyone

Contribute contents: Based on container: everyone

It appears everyone in the organisation can find and view the document, but ony those in the owner Location can modify record metadata (a smaller set of everyone).

This appears to be an inconsistent use of 'everyone'. Is this how it is supposed to work or is there a clash between configuration settings?

Re: Meaning of 'everyone'

The access control is being based on the container, which appears to have an access control of "Everyone".  Thus, in essence, the document has "Everyone" set for it's access controls.  Everyone meaning any person that has the ability to view, update, modify record access, destroy rights, and contribute contents, based on their profile.

IF you were to change the access controls on the container, you would see the document access controls change also.

Re: Meaning of 'everyone'

Understand the concept and rationale  but why misuse the word everyone if it is caveated based on profile and other configuration settings. If Update Record Metadata is based on container and limited to 'everyone' in the Owner Location, why doesn't TRIM simply update the access control to reflect the Owner Location name rather than the misleading term on 'everyone'. Is this a bug or an enhancement request?

Looks like it is implemented correctly in TRIM 7.

Re: Meaning of 'everyone'

You have to look at it this way :  First, the users profile "rights", THEN the users location (e.g. which organization/dept they belong too), THEN the security access controls on the record itself.

If a security access control is set to "HR" on the container, then "Everyone" means everyone within that "Department" IF they have the proper "rights" in their user profile.

Re: Meaning of 'everyone'

I choose to think of "Everyone" as meaning "No specific access restriction".
