Deleting Temporary Tables

Hi All,

I have a dataset on 6.2.4 that has a lot of temp tables that are being created and not being removed. From what I've read it's a bug that's fixed in a later release.

What will happen to trim if I remove these tables?

Can I leave the dataset running or should the TRIM workgroup/event services be switched off when I delete them?

Cheers,

PL

Re: Deleting Temporary Tables

The TEMP tables are created when large searches are performed in TRIM and several subsets of results need to be joined and refined.

These tables are useless once the search is complete and the user is done with the results, so it is safe to clear these on a regular basis and this can be done during business hours if absolutely needed.

I suggest scheduling a script to remove the temp tables overnight though.

Many sites already do this.

Re: Deleting Temporary Tables

Thanks again Grundy.

Do you know if there is any way to tell that TRIM is finished with the tmp table and that it is safe to delete?

Re: Deleting Temporary Tables

There's no easy way to tell, which is why it's best to schedule for after hours.

Re: Deleting Temporary Tables

I assume this is an Oracle database; if so see attached.
