Changing the record type

Hi, I tried changing the record type of some records but I am getting this message instead 'This task is not available for Records of type XXXX'.  Please could someone tell me which settings on the record type prevent me from doing the above?  I have front end 'admin' permissions and Access controls are set to 'everyone'.  Thanks.

Re: Changing the record type

Couple of things you'll have to look at:

a) Is the Record Type level the same as the Record Type you're trying to change to?

b) On the menu tab of the Record Type, is "Record Type" an active task?

c) Is the Record Titling format the same for both Record Types?

These are just some things to check that I thought off the top of my head.

Re: Changing the record type

Right-click on the record and go to Details->View rights... then expand out the "Task for Record" section and see what it says for "Set Record Type".

Yes Erik,  the Set Record Type is not available for the record.  How do I change it?

Many thanks

Re: Changing the record type

I basically copied the record type and made a few changes and added new fields to the new one.  Titling, levels are the same.  I need to change some records to this new record type but not all.

Many thanks

Solution

Re: Changing the record type

Follow these steps:

1) Open TRIM Context

2) Click Tools->Records->Record Types

3) Double-click on the record type in question

4) Click the Menu Tab

5) Sort the Menu Item column

6) Scroll down to "Record Type"

7) Place a check mark to the left of it

8) Click Ok

Then try again, you should be good to go.
