onboard NIC not working after image deployment

I created a gold image on a laptop and uploaded it to the HPCA server.
I pushed the image to a desktop.
Windows xp sets up without any problems.

The driver for the NIC is installed but the NIC can't get an IP address from the DHCP server nor if I assign it a static IP, it does not work.

If I go to the BIOS, the onboard NIC is enabled and so is the boot from PXE feature, but under the boot priority, the boot from NIC option says that there is no NIC installed.

If I delete the hard drive partition, the boot from NIC option under boot priority appears again.

If I install win xp from a CD, everything works fine - my NIC gets an IP form the DHCP server and I can get onto the internet.

Any ideas why the NIC doesn't work after an image was pushed to it?

Any ideas why after the image was pushed to the desktop, I can no longer boot from PXE since the option to boot from NIC in boot priority is no longer available?

I also tried reinstall the NIC drivers to a different version and they installed without a problem but the NIC still can't get a IP form the DHCP server.

I think the problem lies when the image is pushed to the desktop, it changes something in the BIOS or the NIC?

Does the image work properly when you push to the notebook reference machine?
Can you verify that the desktop uses the same hal.dll as the notebook?
Have you tried capturing the image on the desktop?

And as Ben asked... can you deploy the image to a laptop and does the NIC work OK.

HTH.

Re: onboard NIC not working after image deployment

ok just to confuse you a little more:

I have 3 systems in my environment: a hp laptop, a compaq desktop, and a MS virtual PC.

I created a gold image on the virtualPC.
I pushed it out to the laptop - laptops works without any problems.
I pushed it out to the desktop - NIC doesn't work correctly.

Previously I made a image on the laptop and tried to push it to the desktop but I had the same problem where the NIC wasn't working correctly.

the virtualPC and the desktop have the same hal.dll file

the hp laptop has a different hal.dll file

the virtualPC is running on a AMD cpu system and the desktop has a AMD cpu aswell.

The hp laptop has a intel III cpu.

Re: onboard NIC not working after image deployment

sorry - virtualPC is on a AMD system
the laptop and desktop are both Intel (laptop = intel III, desktop = celeron)

Re: onboard NIC not working after image deployment

Yes it is a problem regarding different type of systems.

When I push the image to the desktop computer, under system properties->device manager->computer, it says I have a "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC"

After formatting and installing off win xp cd, it now says "ACPI Uniprocessor PC"
//Add this to "OnDomLoad" event
