Radia Patch Manager: Using local SUS server

Hi all,
my boss is asking me about the posibility of using a local SUS server instead of using an internet access to Microsoft web site.

We're receiving patches from Microsoft in a CD-Rom, so we have patches and service packs locally.

Is there any way to do it?
Has anybody tried it before?

Thanks and regards,
Susana

Re: Radia Patch Manager: Using local SUS server

Hi Susana,
I believe if you copy the patch files under your patch server/data directory they will be picked up during the patch acquisition process.

Indication of this can be observed in the acquisition logs as well.

Wishing you a prosperous New Year :)

Re: Radia Patch Manager: Using local SUS server

Hi Susana,

I haven't used Patch Manager in a while, but there used to be a MICROSOFT_SUS_URL parameter in etc\patch.cfg.
If this parm is still there maybe you could edit it and thus point RPM to your SUS server?

Hope it helps

Re: Radia Patch Manager: Using local SUS server

The logs show that patch publisher was unable to connect to:
-tcp://managementsoftware.hp.com

20060724 18:50:22 Info: http1: CLOSE tcp://managementsoftware.hp.com:80
20060724 18:50:22 Error: Error syncing from web: couldn't open socket: invalid argument

-also to http://download.microsoft.com

20060724 18:50:22 Error: HTTP error while downloading http://download.microsoft.com/d....

The error specifically points to a dns resolution problem.
Please check your dns configuration. Use the command prompt to ping download.microsoft.com and managementsoftware.hp.com
