Re: How to remotely disable firewall and simple file sharing in XP SP2 Clients

Hi,

You can use group policy of Active directory to achive it.Once you have the desktops in domain automatically the simple file sharing is disabled.

Do all your PC's login to AD. I'm sure there are GPO settings for the firewall and very possibly the Simplefile sharing too.
Also, i would guess all these setting are avaiable in the registy; if so what about running the changes in a login script?

Thank for Biju,
Now I'm working with the modified netfw.inf ...

I can walk through about solving about disable firewall. But I have no way to deploy my new netfw.inf and restart firewall.

Re: How to remotely disable firewall and simple file sharing in XP SP2 Clients

Hi,
if You are using AD You should set properly windows firewall exeptions - check page no 33 in manual.

download pstools from sysinternals : http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/PsTools.zip
unpack PsTools.zip to c:\windows\system32\
(I use this path becose it is wrote to search path.)
run cmd and type
psexec \\remote_comp_address -u username cmd
- remote_comp_address - use here ip or domain name of remote machine u want to turn off firewall
- user - use domain admin name or local admin name

if You logged in to remote console type :

gpupdate /force if You set write firewall

policy in GPO. If not go to next step.

netsh firewall set opmode disable

- this turn off windows firewall.
If You have set write policy in GPO You can turn on windows firewall using :

netsh firewall set opmode enable.

In most cases You can install agent now.
