Deploying hardware/software audit failure - invalid credentials

hi all,

i'm trying to deploy the hardware/software audit to my vmware image windows xp and it's failing with the error message of invalid credentials.

the agent has been deployed via the console. so how can the credentials be invalid?

any log files i should be looking at?

Thank you.

When you run the job to install the service doesn't it prompt you for an admin ID\PW on the target device? I suggest this is what it is complaining about!

Re: Deploying hardware/software audit failure - invalid credentials

Hi Karl,

there's no prompt for user/pw when deploying the hw/sw audit.

the only time CAS7.2 prompts for a user/pw is during agent installation. from then on, any deployment of software, patches, audit is done without any username/pw prompt.

when deploying the hardware/software inventory. a wizard pops-up.

1st page is scheduling and the additional parameters is wake on lan.

2nd page is the summary, where it shows the confirmation summary and click on submit to create the job.

3rd page shows you confirmation that the job has been created.

no prompts for username/password.

...and exactly at what point is it failing with the invalid cred's error?

looking at the current job task.

it says "attempting to notify"

then after awhile it will fail and say invalid credential.

Re: Deploying hardware/software audit failure - invalid credentials

do the following...

1. On the CAS Server, in Computer Management\Service - restart the "HP Client Automation Portal" service. May take a few mins to start.
2. Once the service is started rerun the Hw\Sw job.
3. Once you get the failure go to the C:\Novadigm\ManagementPortal\logs and post the httpd-rmp-3466.log.

seems like you got this working then?
If so, what was the issue?

Re: Deploying hardware/software audit failure - invalid credentials

Hi Karl,

actually i haven't got it sorted out yet as this is in development so it's not critical.

will post an update here once i'm able to get back to office and test it out.

Thanks Karl.

Re: Deploying hardware/software audit failure - invalid credentials

The reason it is saying invalid credentials (Also check the Client side logs radexecd.log and you may see the same message in there) Is because the device it is notifying isn't the device you expect. When you target a device for a job in CAS, it does a handshake w/ the client. A credential verification is internally done and if the target device doesn't match the one expected, it will ignore the request. So what could be happening, I've seen this on VM's a lot, is you are targeting one system, but it may be trying to connect to another system due to DNS mismatches. Check the client radexecd.log see if you see the same message, if not, it may be connecting to a different system. Try pinging the client VM from the CAS Server via hostname and see if it responds with the address you expect. Also do a NSLookup, verify that it all looks as you would expect.
