Hi we are trying to install our own instance of Sitescope.
My manager wants to reduce the use of SSH.
I would like to know what other possible ways are there for sitescope to connect to the servers it's monitoring.
Also what is the preferred or recommended method to connect to these servers?
Majority of the servers we are monitoring will be Linux based and there are some Windows as well.
Any advice is very much appreciated.
SSH for Linux/UNIX and NetBIOS for Windows are the most commonly used connection methods in SiteScope.
Less popular alternatives are Telnet or Rlogin (Linux/UNIX) and WMI or SSH (Windows).
I'm not sure what kind of suggestions and recommendations you are looking for.
If you don't care which connection methods to use, then use SSH for UNIX/Linux and NetBIOS for Windows. If you have some restrictions then look at the alternatives I mentioned.
You can refer to Using SiteScope guide, "Remote Servers" part for more details.
We are wondering what type of information we can gather from a Linux server without using SSH or telnet.
For example, could we get file system usage (percentage of space used) without connecting using SSH or telnet.
Could we get that information using SNMP.
